Marang and PCI entered into a partnership through signing of a two year agreement on the 27 September 2011 to implement the OVC/Gender Project which is funded by USAID/PEPFAR.

The overall objective of the project is: To improve the quality of OVC and their parents/caregivers and improve gender-based responses and programming in HIV activities in Botswana.

The partnership came about at the right time when MCCNT through its collaboration with the Department of Social Services were exploring the strategies of strengthening the child protection structures throughout the country. With the past experience of PCIB on OVC activities and the success of the Building Bridges Project, MCCNT found an opportunity to partner with it since the objectives of the project addresses the concerns of MCCNT and national priorities.

Through the project the following objectives are addressed:

  • Improving the livelihood of households for vulnerable adolescents, especially for girls and vulnerable women
  • Improving developmental interventions for vulnerable children and adolescents
  • Reducing the risk of neglect, exploitation and abuse of vulnerable children, adolescents and women
  • Improving development, implementation and coordination of national frameworks and policies that address the needs of children and women.
